The “Beauty & The Business” Educational Series is a new focus on education and professional enhancement provided by our own local stylists community.  The NW has a tremendous amount of talented, award winning veterans in the beauty industry who are full of knowledge and experience.  With this series you will be able to learn from the best that the NW has to offer.  These series of classes will touch on all aspects of the beauty and barbering industry, including styling techniques, marketing & customer acquisition, financial management, and salon ownership.  Students and professional stylists who are looking to grow in their craft and their business operations will surely benefit from participating in these classes.

The first of the series included:  financial management, sponsored by Seattle Credit Union;  natural looking frontal installation techniques, by Ashley GoddessofHair;  precise short-hair styling demonstration, by LaShaun Daye;  perfect feed-in braiding techniques, by Michelle “Mimi” Lee;  and hair care product introduction, by MONAT.

Our second series included:  financial management, sponsored by Seattle Credit Union;  Get informed about Whole and Term Life insurance , by Vershean Mobley; Learning more about creating the social media you want , by Kariba Jack; expanding your extensions techniques , by Ena Robinson;  and color placement, by Shayla Robinson.

This years class will be a little different, we wont have any technical skills being taught, we wanted to focus on some important information you asked for. For our third class we will have BECU share on the different types of business services they provide, mental health with Daryllyn Harris-Waller of Renewed Essence Counseling ,preparing for retirement, learning about disability insurance and more by Danyale Thomas of Reveal Wealth,  Business counseling, resources and training information from Urban Impact and a community round table to share with each other knowledge, tips, and love.

Daryllyn Harris-Waller is a licensed clinical social worker and founding CEO of Renewed Essence Counseling and Wellness.  She earned her BASW and MSW from the University of Washington in Seattle in 2006.  She is a well-rounded clinician with several years of experience as a case manager, college professor, and mental health therapist. she is a PhD candidate in Clinical Social Work at Smith College in Northampton, MA.  Her research focus on the lived experiences of African American women who have experienced depression.  She is a Black feminist researcher and uses her work to build an understanding of facilitators and barriers to mental health use for Black women.

She is just as committed to her own healing as she is to facilitating and helping others heal.  She is intentional about filling myself with love, purpose, relaxation, and self-care.  She has a deep and relatable understanding with her clients and truly acknowledges the sacred work that is done in therapy.

Rooted in faith, she is on a personal journey of integrating mental health and spirituality. She enjoys dancing, being outside, Pilates, connecting with beauty in nature, and is passionate about her community and dedicates her time and energy to social justice and mental health advocacy.  She is committed to her marriage and loves being a mother to my twin girls. She is currently a tenured faculty member of Highline College as a Mental Health Counselor.
